Electrical Transmission

Twenty years ago it was impractical to transmit AC power long-distances and subsea power cable technology was not as advanced as it is today, so an offshore power plant like a FSR-Power® was not technically viable. With the R&D efforts by various companies such as ABB and Statoil in the North Sea for the Oil & Gas industry over the last 15 years it is now possible to economically transmit AC.

Power subsea @ up to 100 MW over 100 miles through a single cable. In addition, electrical swivels capable of transmitting 200 MW @ 145 kV make large-scale power-transmission from a weather-vanning vessel to shore viable.
