MODEC Donates $100,000 to rebuild high school damaged in Sichuan Earthquake

MODEC has donated US$100,000 to rebuild a high school in Bao Xing county, Ya'an City Sichuan Province, China. With a population of approximately 30,000 people, Bao Xing county is one of the 21 most heavily affected counties in '512' Sichuan Earthquake. 135 schools were destroyed during the earthquake in Sichuan and Gansu provinces.
The donation ceremony was held on June 10 at the schoolyard of Bao Xing Ling Guan high school. Some 160 students attend the high school and are currently studying in tents until the new school can be constructed. Bao Xing county mayor, the magistrate of Bao Xing county government and other representatives attended the ceremony.
MODEC has business relationships with China Ocean Shipbuilding (Group) Company (COSCO) and China Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC) and has several projects ongoing in China. "We extend our condolences to the victims and to their families," said Mr. Kenji Yamada, President and CEO of MODEC, Inc. "We hope rebuilding will begin soon and that the new school will provide many students a nurturing learning environment."
