Offshore Engineering

MODEC provides customized mooring solutions for clients that are adaptable to all sea conditions. Our mooring engineers produce some of the most complex spread and single-point mooring systems for the world’s offshore energy industry operating at greater depth, further offshore, and in harsher environments.

Our mooring engineering designs leverage our 40+ years of track record with single point mooring systems, and our continuous improvement processes help deliver reliable, low maintenance mooring systems. By routinely carrying out formal safety and reliability assessments, our engineers detect, control, and mitigate health, safety, and environmental risks associated with its marine terminals and floating systems. Our broad engineering expertise and experience bring efficiency to the process and superior reliability to our products.

Our Mooring Engineering Group consists of five discipline-specific groups.

Mooring Technology and Hydrodynamics

Our highly qualified and experienced group of mooring engineers and hydrodynamicists are the keystone of our product, helping evaluate the most appropriate mooring system for the proposed development, and developing global loads and responses for the analysis and design of the various components of the mooring system and the floating system. This group of engineers provides supports across the entire range of SOFEC activities ranging from Technical Sales support, proposal and FEED engineering, Project Execution, Installation, and Aftermarket services.

The team has world-renowned expertise in hydrodynamics and mooring design and has a strong publication record in Technical Conference Proceedings, Journals and Industry Conferences. Their expertise includes:

  • First and Second-order Panel Methods (hydrodynamics)
  • Hydro-elastic Analysis
  • Global Analysis of Complex Mooring and Riser Systems associated with Floaters
  • Detailed Mooring Analysis and Load Development
  • Mooring Components like Chain, Wire Rope, Polyester Rope, etc.
  • Shallow Water Hydrodynamics and Mooring / Riser Analysis and Design
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics
  • Model Testing in Wind, Wave and Ice Basins
