The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has certified that MODEC's Corporate Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Management System complies with the requirements of the International Safety Management Code (ISM Code), the ISO 14001:2004 (Environmental Standard) and OHSAS 18001:1999 (Health and Safety Standard). MODEC is the first floating production facilities company to obtain integrated certification against all three international codes.

"This certification is evidence that MODEC is truly committed to protecting people, assets and the environment," said Cy Sharp, global director of MODEC's HSE affairs. "Our work is performed all around the world, so we have many cultures to communicate with. The challenge we face is aligning our HSE culture from ship to shore and from Southeast Asia to the Gulf of Mexico and Brazil and beyond, but we now have the systems in place to make it work."

ABS concluded an audit of the Houston office on June 8, 2007. ABS officials will audit the Macae, Brazil office as well as the FPSO Cidade do Rio de Janeiro MV14, a MODEC owned and operated vessel that is located in the Espadarte Sul Field offshore Brazil. A third site visit will be paid to the Tokyo office. Additional certification awaits the results of these audits.
